ABOLISHING INDEBTEDNESS EFFORTS IN TARANAKI In his letter in the current Waikato Diocesan Magazine, the Bishop of Waikato, the Rt. Rev. C. A. Cherrington, refers to the abolishing of the debt on the church at Inglewood. The last sum due on the vicarage mortgage to the Taranaki church trustees has disappeared and the church is to be consecrated on November 30, St. Andrew’s Day. Bishop Cherrington remarked that the financial position, due largely to the work of the Mayor of Inglewood, the lay reader and churchwarden of the parish. Inglewood has one of the finest churches in the Diocese. The Vicar of Otorohanga is conducting a campaign in his parish for the purpose of liquidating the longstanding debt there. It is expected that the debt will be abolished by the end of the year. The Bishop appealed to the more financial parishes to assist the parochial district of Putaruru in wiping off its debt, the required sum being £4OO. This parish was cut off and formed into a new parish some years ago and has since been “under the weather,” says Bishop Cherrington.
