PRETORIA, May 8 “We are fighting to win and are going to win,” said General Smuts in a speech. . "Hitler not long ago promised that the Germans would win the war in 1941. He did not repeat this in his speech a few days ago, but asked the Germans to make a still greater effort because it was going to be a long war. “This is good news, because a long war means certain defeat for Hitler. The war effort will give the South Africans a wider outlook and lay the foundations for a new South Africa.”
