FLYING ACCIDENT
SERGEANT-GUNNER INJURED SERVING IN MIDDLE EAST Mr A. J. Tong, of Waharoa, has received cabled advice that his second son, Sergeant-Gunnei Douglas William Tong, has been injured i'n a flying accident in the Middle East. The cablegram stated that Sergeant Tong had received second degree burns on the face and hands. Sergeant Tong left New Zealand in July, 1940, and was posted to a bomber squadron which operated over Germany and North Sea ports. Following this he was transferred to the Middle East. Before enlisting he was employed by the Te Awamutu Power Board and was a well-known Rugby player.
