NEW LICENSING PERIOD REGISTRATION PLATES WHITE FIGURES ON BLACK Motor registration for the year 1941-42 has commenced, and is to be completed by Saturday, May 31. The staff of the Chief Post Office, Hamilton, is to handle registrations in Hamilton, and all post offices in the postal district will be deputy registration offices. The colour of the license plates for the new term is to be black and white, actually white figures on a black background. License plates must be affixed to vehicles on Sunday, June 1. Car license plates for Hamilton district will have numbers ranging from 74,701 to 93,700; passenger car plates, 251 to 302, cars for private hire (T plates), 571 to 730; service cars, 176 to 240; passenger and goods vehicles (V plates), 520 to 720; commercial vehicles, 9701 to 12,400 for light trucks (up to 2 tons overall), and 7401 to 9600 for heavy trucks (over 2 tons); private hire vehicle, 62 to 71; rental cars, 660 to 705; dealers’ cars (D plates), 506 to 620; vehicles exempted under license fees (E plates), 1701 to 2100; Government vehicles, 1621 to 2150; single plates for trailers (R plates), 3301 to 4600; and motor cycles (plates without initial letter), 5001 to 6100. Provision is being made for the registration of 27,875 vehicles of all types in the Hamilton postal district. Of this number 19,000 are private motor-cars, 4900 trucks, 1300 trailers and 1100 motor cycles, with other types in lesser numbers.
