ROTOTUNA NEWS

WELCOME HOME On Tuesday evening the friends of Mr Byron McDonald gathered in his home to welcome him on his return from the war. Mr McDonald, who was a member of the Forestry Unit, was in England until he was invalided home. A happy time was spent in games and community singing and during the evening Mr A. H. Clement presented the guest-of-honour with a monogrammed pocket wallet. Mr McDonald, who was accorded musical honours, made suitable reply. Among those present were:—Mesdames T. D. McDonald, Carson, Clements, Baldwin, K. Borman, D. Macdonald, H. Borman, L. Green, A. Howell (Te Puninga). Misses Ena Baldwin, Dorothy Clements, Jean Fullerton, Joan Chapman, Joyce and Ella Rushton (Tatuanui), Chris. Campbell (Hastings), Rosaleen Falconer, Rene Clement, and Esther, Ruth and Minnie Howell (Te Puninga). CHURCH ANNIVERSARY The thirty-fifth anniversary of the Rototuna Methodist Church was held in the Sunday School Hall on Monday evening. There was a fair attendance, and a splendid programme was given. The Rev. W. Gatman occupied the chair and the accompaniments were played by Mrs Storrey and Misses May Rushton, Rene Clement, and Jean Fullerton. The following was the programme: —Violin trio, Mises M., J. and E. Rushton; song, Mr J. Ennion; mandolin guitar solo, Mr D. Tarver; song, Mr H. Arthur; elocution, Desmund Ennion; vocal duet, Mrs Storrey and Mr J. Pratt; elocution, Laurie Masters; song, Mr A. Doughty; piano-accordion solo, Mr I. Pratt; song, Mr H. Arthur; Scotch dances, Misses Melva and Zena Williams. A skating exhibition by Miss Beryl Dann and a conjuring display by Mr McLaren, of the Hamilton Magican’s Society, both proved very popular. Mr A. E. Thomas, secretary of the Trust, reported that the church was new free of debt, and in addition numerous improvements and renovations had been effected.
