CIVIC THEATRE The Sea Hawk,” starring Errol’ Flynn is the reckless story of; the most dangerous buccaneer who ever plundered the high seas . for the greater glory of his Queen. Thrills, excitement, spellbinding adventure, tender romance, are blended in generous proportions, It is a brilliant slice of Elizabethan adventure. - “ MARYLAND ” Particularly brilliant technicolour photography is a feature of the charming story ‘‘ Maryland,” which will be screened tomorrow. As a taciturn old retainer Walter Brennan presents the usual portrayal expected of him and his playing opposite Fay Bainter is responsible for vast enjoyment. Another capable team with prominent roles is Brenda Joyce and John Payne. REGENT THEATRE “ New Moon ” is a story of many musical and dramatic thrills. The plot moves swiftly against a colourful background of 1780 New Orleans, and travels, by way of the high seas, through pirate adventures, shipwrecks and a subsequent life on a desert island. Jeanette MacDonald dons the hoops and petticoats of the day for her characterisation of Marianne de Beaumanoir, darling of Paris, who journeys to the New World to take over a New Orleans estate left her by an uncle. Nelson Eddy, in one of his most swashbuckling roles since “ Naughty Marietta,” is seen as Charles Due de Villiers, a political prisoner of the King, who escapes death by masquerading as a bond servant en route to America to be sold into slavery. “ MYSTERY SEA RAIDER ” ‘‘Mystery Sea Raider” and “World in Flames,” two particularly topical I films, will be screened tomorrow. j '. STATE THEATRE "Over the Wall” tells the story of the conviction of an innocent young man and his bitter resentment at the injustice. Through the efforts of his sweetheart and a friendly chaplain, he becomes a model prisoner who is trusted outside the walls. But when the urge comes to escape, he takes it. His purpose, however, is not to get revenge on the men who “ framed ” him but to establish Deyond all doubt that he was not guilty of the crime for which he was unjustly punished. “ Sharpshooters ” depicts the thrilling and romantic adventures of two devil-may-care newsreel photographers. “ CHARLIE CHAN AT MUSEUM ” “ Charlie Chan at the Wax Museum,” another of the thrilling Oriental detective series, will be shown tomorrow.
