APPRENTICE APPEALS
SUSPENSION REDUCED (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELI.IXGTON, Wednesday The apprentice jockey R. G. Howell, who rode Rakahanga in the Telegraph Handicap on the first day or the recent Trentham meeting, appealed against his suspension for Iwo months cm a charge or careless riding. Tin* case was reviewed to-day by tlie Wellington District Committee, which reduced the term <>r suspension to one. month. The committee added u rider that on the evidence adduced Rakahanga was not a fit horse for a lad to ride, and that the trainer, J. 11. Jefferd, be informed that Rakahanga should be ridden by a more experienced jockey in future. For its autumn meeting next month the Wellington Raring Club lias altered the order of running by placing the North I-land Challenge stakes on the programme for the first day and transferring the New Zealand st. Legcr Stakes to the second day.
