PLIOLITE
NEW RESIN MIXTURE Among rubber developments reported before the American Chemical Society in Detroit recently was a new stiff, horny tough resin blended with rubber and vulcanised to produce a new raw material for golf ball covers, decorative silk fabrics, and football and polo helmets. Called Pliolite. these mixtures have a very high impact resistance, are hard to cut and offer a variety of possible uses, especially for thin wall wire insulation. Here an insulating compound can be put around a copper wire and used in only about 40 per cent of the thickness of the usual rubber insulation, with superior insulating properties. This should be an enormous saving in national defence.
