HAMILTON BRANCH ACTIVITIES A social and meeting of members i of the Hamilton branch of the Health and Beauty Movement was held at the Winter Show Hall recently to discuss the future of the movement in Hamilton. Miss Millicent Ward, the founder and director of the move--1 ment in New Zealand, was present and addressed the members. During the evening it was arranged for the Hamilton branch to be conducted in future directly from I Auckland and a monthly visit will Ibe paid by Miss Ward. ; The following committee was elected:—Mrs Lethard. president; Mrs Agnes Gibbs, vice-president; 'Miss Ansenne, secretary-treasurer: j committee. Mrs Bell, Mrs Crimson. I Mrs C. Turner and Miss Betty Clark. Over one hundred women and girls , have already become members in : Hamilton of’this world-wide movement, and during the evening several more joined. A team of Auckland members, | who accompanied Miss Ward, gave a . demonstration during the evening of i the Bagot Stack exercises as taught | throughout the movement, ranging from easy rhythmical movements to , induce correct posture, relaxation, j walking, breathing, etc., for begin- , ners and older women to advanced exercises demonstrating the perfect j ease and grace of the properly- ' trained body. Miss Minna Steele, was at the 1 piano. | During the evening Miss Ward ' gave a short talk on the history of the movement, explaining how it was i originally started by Mrs Bagot Stack ; ten years ago in London. Aiming ;at giving the average working girl and busy woman a system of scientific exercises under highly-trained teachers at a minimum cost, the ! movement grew with great rapidity i from sixteen to one hundred and | sixty thousand in ten years. ! At the death of her mother. Miss I Prunella Stack, now Lady David ! Douglas-Hamilton, became leader in | England, and became well known as Britain's “perfect woman." Hav- | ing been trained by, and worked with, | Mrs Stack and her daughter for sev- ! eral years, Miss Ward left to found ; the movement in New Zealand. In three years branches have been formed in all the main centres in the Dominion, averaging a total membership of five thousand. The Hamilton branch was represented for the first time when six members took part in the North Island demonstration and rally held recently at tb«? Town Hall, Wellington.
