Tuesday Existing stipends of £l4O a year of Maori clergy in the Auckland Diocese were criticised as inadequate by Dean Fancourt when preaching at an evensong service in St. Mary’s Cathedral last night. "They cannot live on those stipends, and have to make up a living by working on farms and on tiie roads,” the dean said. “The whole problem of the Maori clergy causing the Standing Committee considerable anxiety.” Dean Fancourt pointed out that £3622 had been raised in the diocese last year lor missions in other parts of the world.
