THE WORLD OF MUSIC
Recital in Hamilton After Evensong at St. Peter’s Cathedral tomorrow a recital will be given by Mrs Hedy Biland, violinist, and Mr Stanley Jackson, organist. The programme will consist of the music of John Bach, including the Concerto No. 1, Air for the G String, the Chorale Prelude “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring,” three movements for violin from Suite No. 5, the Chorale Prelude “In Thee is Gladness,” the Concerto No. 2, and the Fugue in E-flat Major. Mrs Biland and Mr Jackson are talented musicians, and the Bach programme should be very enjoyable. Music Week in Christchurch The success of music week in Christchurch and the enthusiasm it has aroused have led to a proposal to form a permanent musical committee in the city and in each of the other three main centres to further public interest in music.
The Christchurch Centennial Music Festival Committee has decided to approach the committees in other centres to obtain their opinion on the introduction of an annual music week. If they are agreeable the cooperation of musical societies and the broadcasting authorities will be sought.
