PAGEANT OF EMPIRE
SPECTACULAR PRODUCTION SUCCESS OF REHEARSALS This week I looked in at a rehearsal of the Pageant of Empire, which is to be staged in Hamilton for three nights early next month, and was pleased to find good progress being made with what promises to be a spectacular and impressive production. Miss Phyllis Torpy, the director, has her forces well in hand. Mr R. Braithwaite, of Hamilton, has provided an excellent scenario for the pageant. It is particularly timely just now, for it is a vivid illustration of all that has gone into the making of Britain and all that Britain stands for today. It opens with the coming of Christianity to Britain, and gives the outstanding events i'n history, showing how the
system of freedom which means so much to Britons today was evolved. In dramatic little sketches these things are emphasised, and the presentation is lightened by dances (arranged by Miss Ailsa Docherty) music (arranged by Miss Margaret Roe) of the varying periods. The climax is inspiring.
The Pageant of Empire should be particularly timely just now, when the Nazis are endeavouring to lay low all that Britain stands for.
