RAGWORT MENACE
STRONG, ADVANCED GROWTH
(Special to Times.) MATAMATA, Friday A recommendation that strong representations be made to the Government for special steps to have supplies of sodium chlorate brought in was made by the noxious weeds inspector, Mr E. Lord, at the October meeting of the Matamata County Council. Otherwise, he said, dairy production in the Waikato would receive a great setback owing to the strong and advanced growth of ragwort at the present time. The inspector also drew attention to the serious increase of gorse throughout the county. It was decided to protest against the proposed alteration in the Shops and Offices legislation, which was considered likely to affect Friday night shopping. A donation of £lO 10s was made to the fund for the relief of distress in bombed areas in England.
