SEVERAL FIRES STARTED
ATTACK ON SHIPPING
MINOR DAMAGE DONE (Official Wireless) (Received Sept. 14, 3.15 p.m.) RUGBY, Sept. 13 The Ministry of Public Security at Belfast has issued the following statement: A single aircraft made an unsuccessful attack on shipping off the coast of Northern Ireland. Subsequently a small number of incendiary bombs was dropped on a coastal town. A few fires were caused, but were soon under control.
The damage was slight and there were no casualties.
This is the first time that bombs are known to have been dropped over Northern Ireland.

SINKING OF SHIPS INDUSTRIAL PLANTS BOMBED NAVY BOMBARDS BOULOGNE (United Press Asn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received Sept. 14, 3.15 p.m.) BERLIN, Sept. 13 A communique states: A U-boat sank six armed merchantmen totalling 37,600 tons, including a 7000 tonner already reported destroyed. British planes flying over Germany during the night failed to reach their targets. They dropped a few bombs on residential quarters, also a village, causing a little material damage. Armed reconnaisseurs bombed industrial plants in London, Bexhill, Brighton and Banbury, also other places. They seriously damaged an 8000-ton merchantman south-west-ward of the Isle of Man. Bombers attacked harbour facilities in London and Liverpool on the night of September 12, causing fresh fires and explosions. They again bombed other British harbours and destroyed one enemy plane. One of ours is missing.
Light enemy naval forcefc attempted to bombard the harbour of Boulogne on the night of September 11.

DANUBIAN QUESTIONS ADVICE TO GERMANY (United Press Asn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received Sept. 14, 3.15 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 13 M. Vishynsky, of the Russian Foreign Office, is reported by the Moscow correspondent of the American Press to have informed Herr von Schulenburg, the German Ambassador. that Russia could not remain indifferent to Danubian questions, and must participate in all decisions regarding them.

ACTIVITY OF AIRMEN 2,500,000 MILES FLOWN 250 SUCCESSFUL RAIDS (United Press Asn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, Sept. 12 The Cairo correspondent of the Times says that the Royal Air Force, the South African Air Force, the Rhodesian squadron, and French units have carried out more than 250 successful bombing raids during the last three months.
Over this period fighters and reconnaissance machines of the Royal Air Force in the Middle East have flown more than 2,500,000 miles.

SAVINGS IN BRITAIN INVESTMENT IN LOANS CHANCELLOR VERY PLEASED (Official Wireless) (Received Sept. 14, 3.15 p.m.) RUGBY, Sept. 13 Sir Kingsley Wood, Chancellor of the Exchequer, said the latest figures showing the public’s response to the appeal for investment in Government loans are highly encouraging. The fine total of £353,000,000 has been reached in saving certificates, defence bonds and saving bank deposits.
Two and a-half per cent, of the national war bonds had produced so far £202,000.000 and loans to the Treasury free of interest already totalled £17,000,000.
In all. including the three per cent, war loan, a grand total of £873,000,000 has been raised since the beginning of the war.
