LATE MR J. E. TIDD CIVIC REPRESENTATION TRIBUTE FROM MR J. R. FOW Last respects to the late Mr J. E. Tidd were paid by the citizens of Hamilton when the funeral took place this afternoon. The large cortege included members of the Hamilton Borough Council, the Hamilton High School Board of Governors, the Waikato Winter Show Association, the Hamilton Technical College Board of Managers, the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, and many other social, cultural, and religious organisations in the district with which the late Mr Tidd was associated. The extent and value of his civic career was recognised in the comprehensive representation at the funeral. During a service in the Methodist Church, a tribute to the late Mr Tidd was paid by Mr J. R. Fow, a member of the Hamilton Borough Council, and formerly Mayor of Hamilton. “It is my privilege to pay a tribute to one whose life was woven into the social, commercial, educational, municipal and religious life of Hamilton,” said Mr Fow. Work as Councillor “Mr Tidd always took a leading part in any movement for the betterment of his fellows or for the advancement of Hamilton,” added Mr Fow. “He displayed boundless energy and courage. In 1907 he joined the Hamilton Borough Council and served the community faithfully and well. His business acumen and experience were invaluable to the council, and his incisive and pointed criticism in debate was recognised and appreciated by supporters and opponents alike. His 30 years at the council table have been a contribution beyond estimate.”

The Rev. R. B. Tinsley officiated at the church service and at the graveside. The pall-bearers were Messrs J. R. Fow and H. M. Hammond, representing the Hamilton Borough Council, Mr F. A. Snell, representing the Hamilton High School Board of Governors, Messrs W. T. Morrison and B. Williams, representing the Methodist Church, and Mr W. Y. Kirkman, representing the Methodist Church Board of Trustees. There were many fine floral emblems.
