TODAY’S RECIPE

Follow the American fashion of having a cake as a second course and make CONDENSED MILK CAKE Required: 10 oz flour, 1& teaspoons baking powder, 4 tablespoons condensed milk, 4i oz margarine, 1 egg, 2 oz currants, 2 oz sultanas. 8 dates, 1 tablespoon sour milk, pinch cf salt. Stone and chop the dates. Add the salt to the flour and sieve on to a piece of kitchen paper, cream the margarine and condensed milk together, beat the egg and sour milk into the creamed mixture. Add the flour - and fruit, mix lightly and thoroughly but do not stir together mere than really necessary because this will cause air holes in your cake, and although it makes no difference to the flavour, you won’t be altogether pleased with the texture of the cake. Put a prepared lining into a cake tine, pour in the mixture and bake for \\ hours in a moderate oven (Regulo 4, or 366 deg. Fahr.).
