AWARDED FLYING CROSS EIGHT PLANES DESTROYED (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received Aug. 28, 11 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 27 Royal Air Force awar.ds include the D.F.C. to Pilot-Officer J. A. Gibson, of Auckland. The citation states that while patrolling over Dover he engaged and destroyed a Junkers, and was afterwards himself shot down. Although the aircraft was in flames he steered away from Folkestone, not abandoning the aircraft until it descended to 1000 feet. He has now destroyed eight enemy planes.
