WISDOM OF BUYING WOOL
Mrs Anthony Eden took her husband’s place recently, when she attended the Wool Gala at the Aeolian Hall and presented prizes to winners of the Bond Street window display competition, states a writer in the Queen. The gala, which included fashion parades, music, and “turns” by such well-tried favourites as Douglas Byng, Elizabeth Welch, and Hermione Baddeley, was in aid of the Royal Naval Comforts Committee and the Royal Air Force Committee. It was opened by the Duke of Devonshire, who spoke of the wisdom of buying wool in wartime and thus helping to win the war on the economic front.
Programme selling was undertaken by some of this year’s debs., who seemed to be bearing up very well ! under the disappointment of their | curtailed season. Among them was IMr Winston Churchill’s daughter, Mary.
