GIFT TO ENEMY
800 FRENCH AEROPLANES LEADERS BETRAY COUNTRY GENERAL DE GAULLE’S CHARGES (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, August 23 In a radio broadcast to the world General de Gaulle, leader of the free French people, said the Petain Governent was bringing back 800 aeroplanes from the French African empire and handing them over to the enemy. One part which the leaders at Vichy had to pay for the enemy was to compel the capitulation of Frenchmen in the colonial empire who wished to fight on. Thus Hitler’s eagle and Mussolini’s vulture could easily settle on Casablanca, Tunis, Chad, Dakar, Jibouti and Beirut. The enemy had a stroke of genius when he put France under great military leaders who had been beaten, for they still possessed enough prestige to impose ignominy on other Frenchmen. These leaders formerly served France, but were betraying her to-day. These soldiers were no longer soldiers, said General de Gaulle. These Frenchmen were no longer Frenchmen. These men were no longer men.
