RAPID PROGRESS

DAY IN PARLIAMENT FIVE BILLS BECOME LAW ADJOURNMENT TO WEDNESDAY (By Telegraph.—Special to Times) WELLINGTON, Friday Various subjects were discussed in the House of Representatives today when five bills were put through all stages and passed, and another was given a second reading and referred to the appropriate select committee in order that it might be further examined from a legal point of view. All the morning was occupied with the second reading discussion on the Thames Borough Commissioner Bill and the Carriage by Air Bill. The first-mentioned was passed later in the sitting and the Carriage by Air Bill was referred to the Statutes Revision Committee. Consideration of the Health Amendment Bill took the greater part of the afternoon. The Minister of Health, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, said that the Health Department had been working for 20 years on the old statute, and that any amendments required had been made by means of regulations. These amendments were now being embodied in statute form. There was general approval of the bill, which was passed. The Reserves and Other Lands Disposal Bill and two local bills were also passed. The Statutes Amendment Bill, containing miscellaneous alterations to existing laws, was introduced, read a second time pro forma and referred to the Statutes Amendment Committee. The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, was manifestly pleased with the progress made, and before the adjournment at 4.50 p.m. until Wednesday afternoon he said the House had done a very good day’s work.
