ATTACK ON GIBRALTAR
BRITISH SHIPS SUNK CLAIMS BY ITALY (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received August 23, 3.15 p.m.) ROME, August 22 A High Command communique states: Italian bombers attacked a military objective at Gibraltar. One of our planes failed to return. A torpedo boat sank an enemy submarine in the Eastern Mediterranean, and a submarine torpedoed an enemy destroyer. Our air squadrons bombarded enemy naval formations, composed of several cruisers, and hit two repeatedly. Our native troops at Cocacia, in East Africa, shot down an enemy plane.
