RACING AT ELLERSLIE

PAKURANGA HUNT

FINE FIELDS ENGAGED FOURTEEN IN HUNT CUP PROSPECTS REVIEWED (By “Martian”) Fine fields are carded for the Pakuranga Hunt fixture at Ellerslie tomorrow, the chief event, the Pakuranga Hunt Cup attracting the Well-balanced field of 14 and the Jellicoe Handicap, 24. The Sylvia Park Handicap is to be run in divisions but will be treated as one race lor betting purposes, the machines being open only prior to the running of the first division. Following are the fields, with a review of the prospects:— 11.35

Eetcetera has been working along satisfactorily in his recent track essays but his latest displays have been disappointing and he will have to improve to carry the day despite the mediocrity' of the opposition. Cockalarum shaped encouragingly at Rotorua recently, when he filled the role of runner-up to Golden England and on that display he must be conceded prospects. Searcher’s only start last term was at the Waikato meeting here and it was not illuminating. Big Bill and British Lass are likely prospects but the others have done nothing to recommend their claims. The favourites may be— COCKALARUM ETCETERA BRITISH LASS

Midland has been racing with a consistency in recent essays that will ensure him a firm following on the machines and he should take a lot of beating. Little Ruse won at Matamata and Rotorua and that form entitles him to respect. Since winning over country at the patriotic meeting at Te Rapa Tutor has performed disappointingly. Tavern Song, Vaalso end Tane Mahotu are prospects, but others to appeal more may be Valspear. Bright Idea and Dark Rose. Valspear and Bright Idea have both previously handled the Ellerslie fences and that will be something in their favour. There should be good •upport forthcoming for— MIDLAND LITTLE RUSE DARK ROSE

The fine performance of Estro. when she finished within three parts of a length of Llandaff at Avondale, points to her going a fine race here. Beau Leon won at his last appearance and Royal Fawkes’ form towards the latter part of the past season was indicative of early achievement in the new term. Sieglinde and Gay Rosette have been working well at Te Rapa and they should hold the others safe In an open race in which the fancied division may be found among ESTRO BEAU LEON SYLVIA PARK HANDICAP Of £150; 6 furlongs Second Division

Brackets: Belle Femme and Moan Loon. Fir Lysander and Classic, Ro* Maitland and Royal Fawkes. F.xpHlant ami T»>a Riorum. r,]en Connell and Hegltndp. Whit** Mark and Veyana. Hot Shot arid Korotanri. prinr«*ss Val and Lnclv Pay. Romani and Casual, Boomps-a-Patsy ami Gay Rosette. Golden Bonnet and Kraal. Empire Ro*p and Kerens. Goldrace and Mtmax. Briti-h Mint and c lr General, Bournemouth and Little willonyx. Rara Avis and Foxola, Stratford and Flying Jay. Phil Vaal< and Natal, Money Spinner and King Louis. Selwyn disclosed good form at

Avondale in April where he won on the latter day, and he will need only to reproduce that form to be dangerous here. Monte Cristo is a bold mover and Belle Femme, Sir Lysander, Glen Connell and Romani are capable of strong opposition. Of the balance the pick may be Bournemouth, Rara Avis and Phil Vaals. The prime fancies may be— SELWYN MONTE CRISTO 1.55 JELLICOE HANDICAP

Floodtide and Royevrus have been off the scene for some time and they will have to be taken on trust although they would both take considerable beating if they were at their peak. Brazen Bold appreciates the sting out of the ground and his success in June will claim him following. Young Paddon has been working well and he is in excellent condition to give of his best. Val Lu and Erlick are handily placed and Valmkit, whose latest track essays have been pleasing to his connections, possesses good prospects. Flying Acre has been performing consistently and Black Musk, third last year, will strip in good heart for racing at the meeting. The best of the others may be Kilcash, winner of the Carbine Plate in June. The public may place most reliance on the credentials of—■ YOUNG PADDON BRAZEN BOLD

Mahala has not raced since the June meeting and on that form she will have to be respected, despite her (solid impost. The veteran, Allegretto, [won attractively at Matamata and has since stood up to his work satisj factorily. Lovelilt, however, is the I ruling favourite and on Trentham running she certainly appeals as being hard to beat. Golden England’s success on either day of the recent Rotorua fixture was achieved in a manner indicative of further success and he should give a solid account nt himself here. Biform is a genuine slayer, and, like Floodlight, must be conceded prospects. Gar Vaals, Tutor, and Dark Rose appeal as the best of the lightweights in a race in which |the best supported may be—

LOVELILT GOLDEN ENGLAND ALLEGRETTO

Tellsom ran a fine race at the Te Rapa May meeting and the latest ; efforts of Joan Peel point to her giving a forward account of herself. I Hunting Bee won attractively at Rotorua when she narrowly defeated Esquire and Little Ruse, while Bronze Emerald, Lord Waitangi, Venture and Rival have all the requisite recent form to suggest a chance for them. Hackenschmidt, Acute and Lapidarian will have their measure of support in a race in which the public may prefer the credentials of— JOAN PEEL HUNTING BEE TELLSOM 4.5 LADIES’ BRACELET HANDICAP Of £200; gentlemen riders; 1} miles

Gaine’s Choice and Calshot have been working well and they should (account for the majority. Beverley (has shown little form for some time, i Bellaghy has done nothing to com|mend him and nothing is known of Digger Jim or King Lume. The form i of the rest is such that they will have to be taken on trust. The favourites will no doubt be— GAINE’S CHOICE CALSHOT

Mazir worked well at Takani'ni but may need racing be- | fore he is seen to advantage. Aero ‘King is a good sort when right and j Proud Fox would need only to be i fully attuned to be difficult to dispose of. Lou Rosa, Orate and Our Jean are likely improvers and Sebrof |is not without prospects. Gamos, I however, reads the better proposition. ; He has been working well and should (strip fit and well for the part. Others 1 who have been shaping well on the tracks are Tooley Street, Maxam, Llandaff, Queen City and Sureila, I while of the balance the best may be Royal Message. Brazilian and Clinch. The elect of the investors may be—- ] LLANDAFF QUEEN CITY | TOOLEY STREET ( RIDERS FOR TOMORROW i Riding engagements for the Paku(ranga Hunt meeting tomorrow are as follows:
