BAD WEATHER MET DESTROYER DAMAGED ATTACKS ON AERODROMES (Omclal Wireless) (Received Aug. 22, 11 a.m.) RUGBY, Aug. 21 An Air Ministry communique states: Owing to adverse weather conditions no bombing operations were carried out over Germany last night. Daylight attacks were carried out yesterday and today on aerodromes in enemy-occupied territory. Attacks were also made yesterday by Coastal Command- aircraft on two enemy destroyers in the North Sea, one of which was damaged. We suffered no losses in these operations. People Machine-gunned t An Air Ministry and Ministry of Home Security communique states: Enemy activity over this country today consisted o 5 a series of attacks by aircraft operating singly or in small numbers. There have been many such attacks, including two delivered far inland. It is evident that in some cases the enemy’s objectives were Royal Air Force aerodromes, but though damage was done to the living quarters at one, such attacks proved otherwise abortive. Towns in south and east England and the Midlands were bombed, houses being damaged at several places. The number of casualties was small, though some were fatal. A short attack was made on the inhabitants of one residential area by machine-gun fire. Reports received so far show that ten enemy aircraft have been destroyed to-day. Two enemy aircraft which bombed a town in Lincolnshire were shot down, their bombs having caused little damage and no casualties. Two of our fighters were lost in yesterday’s operations, but the pilot of one is safe.
