BOMBS ON ENGLAND
MUCH DAMAGE CAUSED TWO CHILDREN KILLED SEVERAL RAIDERS CRASH (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received August 16, 3.15 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 15 Three raiders which were shot down over north-east England dropped a large number of bombs, causing much damage to houses, watermains, telegraph and electric wires, and roads. Some fires resulted. A raider crashed near a village. After eight high explosive bombs, fifty incendiary bombs were dropped. Five high explosives fell in another village. Machine-gun bullets hit a bus, slightly injuring passengers. A lone raider over a north-east seaside town dropped four bombs, killing two children and fracturing a workman’s leg. The raider then swooped down, using its machine-gun and causing casualties. Spitfires engaged the bombers. Five of the crew from one northeast raider which crashed landed. One was sent to hospital.
