“5.0.5.” MESSAGE
FROM NORWEGIAN STEAMER ATTACH BY U-BOAT (United Press Assn. —Zlec. Tel. Copyright) (Received August 16, 3.15 p.m.) NEW YORK, August 15 The Norwegian steamer Thermopylane, of 6655 tons, sent “ 5.0.5.” signals giving its position as 38.25 north, 66.30 west. It was evidently being attacked by a submarine. The Mackay radio states that the Thermopylane, when she was questioned, asserted that she was not in distress but was being tracked by a mystery ship. Her position was about 370 miles from New York. The Mackay radio asserts that the ship's first signals were those used by a vessel attacked by a submarine.
