GLUT OF WHEAT
CONDITIONS IN CANADA BUMPER CROP REPORTED NATIONAL EMERGENCY POWERS (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) OTTAWA, August 13 The Minister of Trade, Mr Mackinnon, indicated that the Government might be forced to declare a national emergency to deal with the glutted wheat market. There is a bumper crop, estimated at 500,000,000 bushels. One of the immediate problems is that financial farmers are compelled to hold grain on their farms because of lack of storage. It is emphasised that the problem is of such an emergency character that it is very likely that the prairie Legislatures will be required to legislate permitting Federal action. Mr Mackinnon has appointed a Canadian Board Advisory Committee, comprising representatives of prairie growers, exporters, millers, shippers and, consumers.
