APPLES MEANT FOR FIRST (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Wednesday The National Patriotic Fund Board has received, through army headquarters a cable from MajorGeneral Freyberg, General Officer Commanding the New Zealand Forces overseas, expressing appreciation of the 5000 cases of apples sent by the Board in the ships which carried the Second Echelon from the Dominion. The apples were originally intended for the First Echelon in Egypt. The Board is making fresh supplies of comforts available for the First Echelon, and an additional sum of money has been remitted also for the purchase of comforts.
