EMPIRE TRAINING SCHEME TRIBUTE FROM AMERICA (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) NEW YORK, Aug. 13 A one-column article headed “ 22.000 Australian Airmen to Aid Britain ” appears in the New York Herald-Tribune. The article says: “ Military observers say that the ultimate victory is likely to be with the side able to throw the strongest continuous stream of reserves into air action, and developments in Australia should have an important influence on the encounter.” The article refers to reports that 12.000 Australian airmen are already advanced in their training, and that 10,000 more have been accepted. “ Thus,” fhe article continues, “the response recalls the assertion of the air correspondent of the London Evening News, E. J. Hart, in 1939, that ‘ If we fought the dictators today, it would be their air power against England; a year hence it will be against the Empire’s air power.” The article details methods of Australian air training, which, it says, are comparable to those of the United States air corps.
