INFLUENZA EPIDEMIC

SCHOOL ANNEXE CLOSED PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES Although the influenza epidemic that has been severe at the Hopu Hopu Military Camp shows signs of having run its course, the new West School, which was commandeered as a temporary hospital, will not be handed back to the education authorities for some time. At present there are only 10 soldiers in the Waikato Hospital suffering from influenza, and the new annexe has been cXosed.

Work on the installation of hot and cold water and facilities to i\rovide baths in the school is in ha\td, and the Hospital Board will mai\tain control of the buildings in casV of an emergency a little later. With the establishment of a territorial camp at Claudelands next month for all members of the 7th Medium Battery, and in the event of some of the Fourth Re-inforce-ments being trained at Hopu Hopu when they are mobilised, it has been considered wise, as a precautionary measure, to make all preparations in the event of a further outbreak of influenza among the men, who will be new to camp life.
