GOLDEN ROLY POLY Ingredients: Two cups flour, half teaspoon baking powder, pinch of salt, half cup butter or beef dripping, about half cup of water, sliced apple, soaked drained apricots or mixed fruits, sugar as required, one cup golden syrup, one tablespoon strained lemon juiced. Method: Rub shortening into sifted flour, powder and salt and mix to firm paste with water. Roll thinly, oblong in shape, spread with fruit and sweeten as required. Roll firmly, securing edges, and bake in buttered dish in moderately hot oven for a quarter of an hour. Pour warm syrup and lemon juice over roll and bake slowly for half hour, basting frequently with syrup.
