STREICHER DEAD

SUICIDE OR EXECUTION FATE OF “ JEW-BAITER ” DISAGREEMENT WITH GOERING (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, Aug. 6 A report from the German frontier quotes a well-informed source

as saying that Julius Streicher, the German “ Jew-baiter,” is dead. It is believed that he disagreed with Goering, who ordered an inquiry into his conduct of party affairs, whereupon Streicher was confronted with overwhelming evidence of his guilt and summarily convicted. It is not known whether he committed suicide or was executed. Formerly he edited the anti-Semite journal Der Sturmer, and became notorious for his bitter attacks upon the Jews. These he carried to absurd lengths: on one occasion, for instance, he claimed to have established that Pope Pius XI was a Jew, and that his real name was Finkelstein. “Dead—Who Cares?” A Fleet Street newsboy’s blackboard poster says: “Streicher reported dead. Who Cares?” The Berlin correspondent of the American Press says it is authoritatively announced that Streicher is in perfect health and is residing on a farm near Nuremburg. He was removed from the Governorship of Franconia some time ago. His name still appears in his newspaper.
