CAPTAIN’S TROPHY WON W. TOWNSEND’S GOOD FORM (Special to Times.) CAMBRIDGE, Monday. Tlie Captain’s Trophy was played for by members of the Cambridge Golf Club on Saturday, a large number of members taking part. The winner was Wallace Townsend, the club’s most improved player this season, who scored 42 Stableford points. His medal round was 79—19 —60, and as a result his handicap has been reduced by five strokes to 14. In conjunction with the Captain’s Trophy match he played the fourth round of the Cambridge Handicap, beating C. G. Thompson, 4 and 3. In view of Townsend’s excellent round. Thompson did well to keep the match going until Land’s End. Detailed results of the Captain’s Trophy match, with bogey handicaps in parenthesis, are as follows: W. Townsend 42 (14); L. R. Haworth, 38 (4); I. Fairbrother, 37 (14); J. Butler, 34 (18); W. R. Garrard, 33 (8); A. J. Law, 33 (8); V. C. Hollis, 32 (5); R. Boucher, 32 (4); C. R. Haworth, 31 (9); W. J. Ward, 29 (8); W. Suckling, 29 (17); J. W. Jeans, 28 (18); C. G. Vosper, 28 (18); A. H. Nicoll, 26 (8). Cambridge Handicap As a result of games played dur- ! ing the week-end, the Cambridge Handicap has reached the semi-final stage. In the fourth round, W. Townsend beat C. G. Thompson, 4 and 3; E. C. Budd beat W. Rice, 1 up; D. McCathie won from E. Nickle by default; S. Dunbar beat R. Ireland, 5 and 4. The draw for the semi-finals is as follows:—E. C. Budd v. D. McCathie; W. Townsend and S. Dunbar. A four-ball best-ball bogey match will be played next Saturday, players arranging their own partners and opponents.

Morpeth beat J. C. Ball, 2 up; C. E. Hart beat P. Denholm, 1 up. Lockerbie Cup (Mr H. J. Scholium’s Trophy).—W. S. Goosman beat A. G. Yardley, 4—2; R. D. Wilson won from K. J. Fitness, by default; J. H. Boles beat R. Somers, 2 up; T. H. Johns won from W. W. Maingay, by default; G. Muir beat E. W. Harden, 5—4; P. Petry beat A. E. Trotter, 5—4; T. J. Ryan beat M. Maclean, 5—3; N. Ross beat C. D. Family Turkey Competition Next Sunday afternoon a mixed 1 foursomes competition will be played for a turkey donated by Mr J. M. Stewart. Entries will be called for, j and the condition of the competition j is that each pair must consist of members of the same family. The competition will be played over 18 holes, on half the combined handicaps. On the Sunday afternoon following, a similar competition will be held for those who are not eligible or who do not compete in the previous competition, the only condition being that of mixed partners.
