NEW INDUSTRY
USING DOMINION PRODUCTS FACTORY FOR HORLICKS A new enterprise utilising large 'quantities of milk and other New Zealand products has been established by the well-known firm of Horlicks Proprietary. At Tokomaru, in the Manawatu, alongside the co-ope-rative dairy factory which draws its supplies from the herds on the rich alluvial plains of the district, Horlicks have erected a building which hardly bears a resemblance to a factory, though this is its purpose. The building is planned to obtain the maximum of sunlight and fresh air, and its interior finish, with all walls enamelled in cream, facilitates the maintenance of a high hygienic standard, so essential in the handling of a food product with an enviable reputation for quality. The deputy-chairman of Horlicks Proprietary, Ltd., Australia, Mr T. H. Wynne-Lewis, selected the Palmerston North area for manufacturing operations in the Dominion after a careful survey of other promising centres where good milk supplies were available, and he returned to New Zealand to see the new enterprise commenced. Though the manufacturing process for the production of the Horlick product calls for specialised knowledge, and strict control even to the extent of laboratory tests at various stages, there is no mystery about the materials, which are recognised by everyone as having high nutritive value.
