PITCAIRN ISLANDER
DETENTION FOR THEFT (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Tuesday Mr Justice Smith sentenced Victor Christian, aged 20, a Pitcairn Islander, to two years’ Borstal detention for theft from a house. His Honour said he had given the case careful attention and did not want prisoner to think there was anything vindictive in the sentence. The probation officer felt that the interests of accused, who had been found weak and easily led, would best be served by a period of disciplinary training.
