GRANTS TO CAMPS
MARQUEE FOR PAPAKURA (By Telegraph.—Special to Times) AUCKLAND, Saturday A grant of £IOO for the provision of a match wicket and six practice wickets at the Papakura mobilisation camp was made by the executive of the Auckland Metropolitan Patriotic Committee. It was also reported that a marquee for recreational purposes had been ordered at a cost of £315, and was to be erected next week. It was stated that four radiators had been supplied to the camp at Ngaruawahia, where the recent cold snap had caused distress. Many requests had been received for pianos, but it was difficult to meet them because of the cost. A few had been loaned. A number of radio-receiving sets are to be provided for men on naval trawlers and examination vessels. A report stated that the crews of these ships led a veiy hard life and were cut off from news of the world. Because of the nature of the electric lighting systems of the vessels concerned, it would be necessary to supply battery sets.
