FAT STOCK SALES STEADY RATE OF BEEF FALL IN CALF VALUES AUCKLAND, Wednesday At the Westfield fat stock sales yesterday the yarding of ox beef was smaller than last week and competition was keen. Values weire firm on late rates, extra choice ox beef selling to 39s per 1001 b. Top price for steers was £ls 17s 6d, made by a line from Mr J. Hannon, of Ohaupo. The best bid last week was £l6 10s. Cows ranged to £l3 7s 6d, against £l3 10s at the last sale. A full entry of good quality sheep sold freely. Wethers sold to 375, although a particularly good pen last week realised 395. Ewes made to 275. compared with 28s 3d. Competition was steady for an average offering of lambs. Top price was 32s 3d, against. 29s a week ago. A very large entry of calves was penned. Although the general quality was good, last week’s improved rates were not reached. A very good runner sold to £9 7s, against the top bid of £9 5s at the previous sale. Vealers made to £5 10s, compared with £5 16s. The demand was keen for another small yarding of pigs. Porkers were quoted to £3 11s, and baconers to £4 15s. Last week's best rates were £3 16s and £5, respectively.
