BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING (Special to Times) TE AWAMUTU. Tuesday. The Mayor, Mr G. Splnley, provided at the monthly meeting- of the Te Awamutu Borough Council meeting- last night. Also present were Messrs J. Sterritr, C. J. Srpiers, W. J. North, J. A. Maxwell, A. Brookes and L. S. Armstrong-. Leave of absence was granted to Mr J. C. M-onte-flore. it was decided to Instruct the borough solicitor to draft a by-law regulating Hie parking- o<r lorries in the business area of the town. in connection with the marking- of the streets, it was pointed out that in future the traffic Inspector was not to accept directions from individual councillors, and would re-paint markings when necessary without further instructions. The tender of the Electrical Service Company for three I'3-stand bicycle frames at £l4 l'2is 6d each was accepted. The public library committee's application for £SO for the purchase of books was granted. The Te Kawa Quarries advised that in view of present conditions it would not be possible to keep the workmen constantly employed, and. therefore, it would assist If the council could give an estimate or its requirements for future use so that the moit.il could be stored. The works commltitee’s action in ordering- 300 yards of half-Inch chips aid 200 yards of duty waste was approved. DOMAIN BOARD FOOTBALL GROUND FEES \,t last night’s meeting of the Te Awamutu Domain Board, the Waipa Rugby Union wrote that Rugby Hubs felt that in view of t.hp war conditions difficulty would be experienced in collecting ground fees ror use c*r the park. The union asked that some concession be given. The union also asked lor a pound-for-pound subsidy on the takings at last Saturday’s matches, which were for patriotic 'purposes. Board members considered that the Tees charged were very reasonable and thercfore n<> action would be laken in regard to ground fees or the subsidy. It was decided to Du-ego the in per cent of takings ror 13' ~ iturday. Tile Mbert Park grandstand trustees forwarded a copy of a resolution asking that they be relieved and that the Domain Board take over. It was decided to accede to the request and to take over the stand and control of the ground and the admission thereto. An application will be made to the Borough Council to make a donation of approximately £IOO to clear the liahilMy on the stand.
