SERIOUS DEBIT
METHODIST HOME MISSIONS (By Telegraph.—Prp«« Association) DUNEDIN, Monday “It is obvious that the position is extremely serious,” stated the Rev. G. I. Laurenson at the Methodist Conference when referring to the financial position of the Home Missions Department. He stated that from a credit balance of £543 in 1938, last year, ended with a £6lB debit. If the 1940 estimates stood, the year would end with a £2013 debit. The department required £ISOO more. A resolution was passed urging a special effort in circuits and stations to increase the revertue.
Trunk railway. They proceeded to camp by special buses, however. About 300 territorials are participating in the training under the command of Major E. M. Mackersey, of Te Kuiti. They will remain in camp until next Saturday. The regimental band accompanied the territorials into camp. SCHOOL GROUNDS FLOODED BARRACKS POSTPONED The Taumarunui High School Cadets were to have commenced four days’ barracks today, but the weekend storm flooded the School grounds and the military training schedule has been postponed until next week. NEW PLYMOUTH ROAD MAY BE OPEN TO-NIGHT According to advice received from the Hamilton Area office of the Automobile Association (Auckland) this afternoon, there is a possibility of the Te Kuiti-New Plymouth Road being open to-night. This is by no means definite, however, and even if the route is open motorists are advised not to attempt the trip. No advice has yet been received as to when the other main routes are likely to be open, the Taupo-Napier Road still being the only means for motorists of reaching Wellington.
