MAORIS EFFICIENT
PRAISE FOR BATTALION (Special to Times) PALMERSTON N„ Monday High praise for the Maori Battalion was voiced by Major-General J. E. Duigan, Chief of Staff, following an inspection today. “I can tell you this, that as a man who has had a very long experience in the Army, if I had been informed that in such a short time you could have reached such a very high standard in your drill and in your movements, I would not have credited it,” he said. “It is a great credit to your officers that they have brought the battalion along so rapidly. “I know that your heart is in your work,” added Major-General Duigan, “and this standard has been reached in such a brief time because of your keenness and your enthusiasm to learn and digest everything that you have to do. I feel quite sure you will be a credit to your officers, a credit to New Zealand and a credit to the Maori race.”
