GOOD START

HAMILTON SLUMPS LATER OLD BOYS SCROES FREELY Hamilton was given a splendid start by Norman Winger and J. Everest, the opening pair putting on 98 runs before Everest skied a ball to Harding on the on boundary. Five bowlers were tried against the batsmen ip an effort to break the partnership but none was impressive, the batsmen scoring all round the wicket.

Everest was at the wickets for 50 minutes for his 47 runs, which were scored in his most attractive style. His total included five fours. Winger, while associated with Everest, gave several chances but was chasing the runs.

Lissette did not last long, being j sent back to the pavilion in reaching forward to Crabb. However, he as- | sisted Winger to hoist the century. | Joined by Sandford, Winger j quickly ran into the fifties but ten runs later he mis-hit a good ball from L. Higginson and was taken behind the wickets by Hansen. None of the remaining batsmen was able to last long, and the team slumped after a splendid start. Choat, who was not tried until late in the innings, appeared to be the best of the Old Buys bowlers, and

was coming ofE the wicket with considerable pace. Aggressive Batting Starting almost in identical manner with Hamilton, Old Boys had 68 runs on the board oefore Aitken and Clough were separated. Both batsmen were aggressive and runs came quickly. The half century was hoisted in 38 minutes with Aitken mixing caution with free hitting. Clough was also handling the bowlers confidently and the attack appeared to be completely mastered when the latter failed to cover one from Lissette. Harding did not last long but Hope was content to let Aitken score the runs which he added in quick time to hoist the century. Details were:— HAMILTON.—First Innings Norman Winger, c Hansen, b L.
