SEVERE STRUGGLE
FIGHT AND SUFFER • * 1 THE DOMINION TROOPS PRAISE FROM MINISTER (United Preet Aesn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received Feb. 17, 3.15 p.m.) PARIS, Feb. 16 Mr Oliver Stanley inspected the British troops in the forward area. Interviewed, he said: “We must fight and suffer. The severest struggle undoubtedly faces the British troops here. It is absolutely absurd to imagine that the Germans will go down without trying out their war machine to the fullest extent. I am not a pessimist, but victory will not be easily purchased.” He described the New Zealanders and Australians in the Middle East as magnificent material. They might have to fight alongside troops from Britain “in whatever theatre of war may be necessary.”
