RIVER FATALITY
BURNHAM SOLDIER UNIT AT EXERCISES (By Telegraph.—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday A soldier from the Burnham camp lost his life in the Selwyn River this afternoon. The victim was: Allan Roy Harrington, single, a member of the Army Service Corps. The unit was exercising at Williams’ Ford. During a break in training the men were swimming in the river when Harrington collapsed. Every effort was made to save him, but the body was lost and not recovered until 7 p.m. FALL INTO FOOL FARM LABOURER DROWNED (By Telegraph.—press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Friday A farm labourer, Mr Joseph Jones, aged 30, was drowned this afternoon at Huinga, near Stratford, when he fell into a deep pool in the Mangaehu River from the top of a steep bank on which he was working. He was a married man with two children.
