PETER PAN’S LETTER

= Jj)EAR GIRLS AND BOYS, = Oh dear, Peter and the Circle People are so tired of wak- S S ing up to find leaden grey skies and heavy showers of silver rain j-t = every morning and they do wish the Weather Man would send us a : E few sunny days, don't you ? The Sunshine Girl says that the poor g = old Weather Man must have a very bad fit of the miserables, but E Jenne said she was quite sure it was simply very bad temper. These = H last few weeks haven’t been like summer at all, have they ? Why, H = the other evening the Circle People had a lovely blazing fire in their = 5 grate and the Wendy Person was wearing a thick winter cardigan. E = Just imagine a fire and woolly cardigans In the middle of SUMMER. = jE Peter's garden is looking very battered just at present too for E E the rain has flattened down all the plants and the winds have blown = = nearly all the heads off the flowers. The Wendy Person’s patch of E S dahlias, which have been looking so beautiful up to now, are be- 5 = ginning to look wind-flayed and brown, while the Sunshine Girl's = = geraniums have made a lovely scarlet petal-carpet on the emerald EE = lawn. Even the phlox, whose lovely fuchsia and cyclamen petals = jE look so much like wisps of satin, are flattened out or their heads E E have been broken. Yes indeed, it is very, very strange weather = jE for summer. E E And now the jolly schooldays are well Into swing again and E = Peter hopes that you are all settling down to lots of hard work, both = E in school and out on the playing field.
