“GONE WITH THE WIND”

PREMIERE IN AMERICA AUSTRALIAN ACTRESS PRESENT A letter from Joy Howarth is mostly filled with a description of the premiere at Atlanta of “Gone With the Wind,” briefly and affectionately known as “G.W.T.W.,” says a Sydney writer. Joy flew to Atlanta from Hollywood and was one of 6000 movie actors, actresses and executives who attended the grand ball given the night before. All the Atlanta girls brought out their grandmothers’ hoop-skirts and poke bonnets, writes Joy, and the men wore tight trousers and beaver hats. Joy got through the crowd at the hall to say “congratulations” to Vivien Leigh, who plays Scarlett O'Hara, and they had a moment in which to recall that, the day they last lunched together in Hollywood was the day Miss Leigh was chosen as the perfect Scarlett. As for Joy herself . . . She has been appearing in the play. “Yes. My Darling Daughter,” produced by a repertory company; and also in a series of radio plays.
