POISON TAKEN
DEATH OF SOLICITOR (By Telegraph.—Press Association) AUCKLAND, Friday Suicide by poisoning was the verdict returned by the City Coroner, Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M., at an inquest into the death of Thomas Benjamin Slipper, solicitor, aged 61, who was found dead in his room in Wellington Street on January 27. Dr. W. H. Horton said he had been a friend of Slipper for years and examined him professionally on January 19. He was healthy physically but depressed mentally. Three days later Slipper telephoned him and asked the effect of a certain poison. Witness replied it was deadly, whereupon Slipper said he intended taking some. Witness suggested going to see him, but Slipper said, “So long, Bill; it will be all over before you come.”
A fellow boarder gave evidence that Slipper had been drinking heavily. He was separated from hie wife.
