IN THE MIDDLE EAST
MR EDEN FOR TURKEY ANZAC TROOPS WELCOMED (United press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, Feb. 14 The Dominions Secretary, Mr Anthony Eden, will visit Ankara on his way home from Egypt for discussions with the Turkish Cabinet, says the Associated Press of Great Britain. The Turkish press is predicting new Allied moves in the Middle East. It gives considerable prominence to the Red Army’s continued fortifying of points in the Caucasus, and even of Odessa and other Black Sea ports. The Turkish newspapers applaud the arrival of the Australian and New’ Zealand troops, as showing that the Allies are ready for any eventuality. Official circles in Beilin describe the reports that German troops are moving to Eastern Galicia and the Caucasus as “ obvious ’British lies.” Turkey has greatly annoyed the Nazis by engaging Polish technicians to replace the German specialists who w ere dismissed when the Turkish Government seized the Krupp shipyards. Poles have also been given employment in many Government departments.
