OBITUARY
MR JAMES MILES The death has occurred of Mr James Miles, of Tramway Road, Claudelands, at the age of 60 years.
The late Mr Miles had been a resident of Hamilton for the past six years. He was born at Christchurch and in 1909 he went to Taihape, where for 20 years he was a prominent businessman. Later he took up business at Ohakune, where he resided for 12 years before coming to Hamilton. He had been in ill health for some time.
He is survived by his wife and five daughters, Mesdames Sutton (Te Aroha), Williams (Whangarei), G. H. Youngman (Hamilton East), and Misses E. Miles and K. Miles (Claudelands).
MR FREDERICK GODDARD
(Special to Times) OTOROHANGA, Thursday The death of one of the pioneer settlers of the King Country, Mr Frederick Goddard, occurred in the Te Kuiti Hospital, at the age of 72. The late Mr Goddard took up virgin bush country at Kinohaku, on the eastern shores of the Kawhia Harbour, when the lands there were thrown open for selection by the Crown in 1902. He was born in England, and come to the Dominion i with his parents when he was six years of age. Mrs Goddard was the first white woman to settle in the Kinohaku district. In the 38 years they were on the property the Goddards converted it into a highly productive farm. In recent years failing health had restricted Mr Goddard’s activity, but the family carried on successfully. Mr Goddard is survived by his wife, two sons. Messrs Henry and George Goddard, of Kinohaku, and three daughters, Mrs R. Holmes : (Kinohaku). Mrs F. Klein (Kirite--1 here) and Mrs Hansen (Hamilton).
