Trouble Over Awards Referring to the trouble which fre- ; quently occurred over the interpretation of clauses in awards, Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M., said in the Magistrate’s Court, Hamilton, today that it was a pity that when set terms had been arranged, both parties did not “stick to them.” He deplored the tendency to interpret clauses. “This applies to both employers and employees, not all, but some,” said the magistrate. More Germans Arrested Two more German nationals living in suburbs of Auckland were arrested by detectives last night. One man has been resident in New Zealand for about 40 years. Their ages are between 50 and 60 years. Four Germans have been taken into custody this week, making the total from Auckland since the outbreak of war 13. The two men arrested on Wednesday left by the limited express last night under armed escort for the internment camp at Somes Island, Wellington. Tramline Explosions It is believed that a further attempt to place an explosive on Wellington tramlines was made on Wedi nesday morning, but that it was frustrated. A pedestrian in Pirie Street at 6 a.m. saw two men apparently placing something on the track. He approached, whereupon the two men made off. The witness of the incident was able to give a good description of the two men to the police, who are investigating. Woolworths Higher Profit

The New Zealand Stock Exchange Association has received cabled advice of a preliminary notice by the directors of Woolworths, Limited, announcing a net profit for the year ended January 31, totalling £272,922 The directors propose to recommend

a final dividend of 111 per cent, making 17| per cent for the year on the paid-up ordinary share capital of the company. Profits compare with £271,693 in the previous year and £217,717 in 1937. The dividend is unchanged. Garden Place Removal Owing to the long period of wet weather the removal work at Garden Place has been considerably hampered and has not progressed as rapidly as was expected. The work of shifting the remaining section of the hill has been in progress for about ten weeks and gangs of men have also been engaged on sewerage work. The loading of the spoil from the hill is being carried out by Messrs Butler and Carroll, Limited, and the cartage to Rugby Park by the Hamilton Borough Council.
