EFFECT ON LODGES
SOCIAL SECURITY LEGISLATION REGISTRAR GIVES WARNING (By Telegraph.— Press Association) WELLINGTON, Thursday The Registrar of Friendly Societies, Mr R. Sinnel, warned delegates at the Wellington district Ancient Order of Foresters conference today that their increased surpluses were due in a large measure to secessions from lodges. It was not his place to say why, but where the Social Security Act impinged on the friendly societies’ statutes the Act had to operate. The provision of the Social Security maternity benefit was now in operation, except in Southland, and so was available to everyone, but if lodge members availed themselves of it they could not draw the lodge maternity benefit. If they remained outside Social Security the lodge benefit was still available.
