FEARED DROWNED
YOUNG FISHERMAN LOST COMPANION REACHES SHORE (By Telegraph.—rress Association) HASTINGS, Thursday The capsize of a flat-bottomed boat at the mouth of the river at Clive this afternoon is believed to have caused the death by drowning of Mr James Allan Cushing, aged 24, woolwash worker of Clive. His companion, Mr Raymond Gordine, aged 24, also a woolwash worker, of Clive, managed to reach the shore in an extremely exhausted condition. The two young men went down the river in their 12ft. boat at one o’clock this afternoon for an afternoon’s fishing in the open sea, which was then calm. When they reached the river-mouth two or three unexpectedly large seas sank their craft. With water up to their necks they managed to secure a foothold for a few moments on the bar across the river mouth, but they were swept away by the strong current.
